The Fifth Year students were welcomed back into the mini-marsh at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes.

Students dug and pulled up the roots of the plants to remove the Yellow-Flag Iris, an invasive species in order for more growing space for the native species.

The Fifth Year students were able to see the growth of the native plant species, such as the cardinal flower and button bush

The Fourth Year students experienced the mini-marsh and the invasive species, the Yellow-Flag Iris.

Removing these species, students used shovels, their hands, to pull up these species in the mini-marsh at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes.

Students have begun their study of the Earth Sciences this year by researching fracking and how geology is connected to larger geology themes and environmental conversations.

Sixth year students collected sedimentary rocks from Doan Brook in order to examine and identify the types sedimentary rock present in the Brook.

Fifth Year students have begun their study of the human body.

Students are conducting research about systems of the human body. They highlighted important organs, basic functions, and project ideas for each system.

Some 5th year students even began their projects! Students are measuring resting and active heard heart rates and creating models of the skeletal system.

Fourth Year students began their year by observing the sights, sounds, movements of the Horseshoe Lake on our first field experience of the year.

Students worked in partners to observe plants growing around Horse Lake including browning cattails, purple flowers, thistles, and black-eyed susan.

The student groups heard loud cidadas and bees buzzing overhead.

They even observed wasps and dragonflies flying and ants crawling on the boardwalk.

Upper Elementary Science Lab and Students are busy.

The science lab is buzzing with activity from the 5th Year’s study of the Human Body Systems, to the 4th Year’s Five Kingdom work, to the 6th Year’s study of Earth Sciences.
